It’s been a while since a product that I’ve tried really impressed me from the start. Usually, I need to try products a couple of times before I can get a sense of how well they work. Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer isn’t a new product, but after seeing countless reviews on it, I just had to pick it up from Sephora last week. I only purchased the mini because Sephora isn’t doing samples (due to COVID) and I didn’t want to commit to using the larger size (& price tag) if I wasn’t sure how I’d like it.
Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer is a hydrating, makeup-gripping gel primer that is formulated with hemp-derived cannabis seed extract and blue agave extract. I’ve never had a “gripping” primer before, so the tackiness of this primer was definitely new to me. Applying it was easy, but because it is tacky, you need to work fast applying this or it might not smooth out evenly. After leaving it to dry for a minute, my skin was tacky, but it did look smooth. Applying my foundation over it was a breeze – it looked airbrushed! The only issue I found was applying it under my eyes was a bit tricky. Because the skin around your eyes is so thin, this primer felt a bit too thick for the area. I wish Milk Makeup would make a thinner primer for under eyes as it’s a delicate area.
What I also love about the Hydro Grip Primer is that it contains aloe water, hyaluronic acid, sweet cherry, and vitamins B3 and B5, which nourishes skin for a healthier-looking base and glow. It’s silicone-free and oil-free, and goes on clear to work across all skin tones and types. It also has a nice subtle scent, which is a bonus first thing in the morning.
I’d recommend this primer to everyone – especially those with oily skin! My skin looks amazing at the end of every workday, especially when I wear a mask (again, COVID precautions..). It is on the thicker side, but it makes your skin look flawless & stay that way all day. I purchased the Hydro Grip Primer mini size ($20 CDN – 10mL), but there is also the standard size ($40 CDN – 45mL).
